Reading and Leeds 2015 headliners

So here is your final Reading and Leeds blog post for 2015, the turn of the headliners. Here we go…

To be honest I was a little disappointed with the headliners this year. Mumford and Sons, Metallica, and The Libertines were the chosen three but I can’t help but feel they are mediocre compared to past headliners. It’s just my personal taste I suppose but here is a breakdown of all three headliners.

Mumford and Sons:

I do like Mumford and Sons, don’t get me wrong, but are they really headliner material? I agree that with all of their success they deserve to be on the main stage but not at the peak of the night. When I think Mumford I think summer, afternoon, folk, chilling in the sun; not night, dancing, and end of the festival. I just don’t agree that they should close a festival rather than be performing at the height of the afternoon. That being said I did enjoy their performance. They did a great mixture of their classic old songs, and their new album which was really great to hear. However that was another issue I had. Although I like Mumford’s new album, and I think they have some great songs, I feel like they are drifting from the music style we love Mumford for. They are less folk and more mainstream now, and I can’t help but be disappointed with the change. I remember the last time I saw them at a festival and the stage was littered with guitars, violins, Chellos, and every folk musical instrument under the sun; and now, a dismal attempt. The performance was alright, the song choices were good, but with their change of musical direction and lack of headliner qualities I just think it was a disappointing choice by Reading and Leeds festival organisers.

Metallica:

Before I even start this one I will say it will be the shortest of them all because I am not a Metallica fan. Regardless of this I do think they were a good choice of headliner. They are an old school, classic, rock band, who I know a lot of people love. They are what a headliner should be. Good rock band, something to jump (and mosh) to, and ending the festival day with a bang. Although they are older now, and it is a bit of an embarrassment when they try and carry on pass their time, but I still think they were a good choice. Not my favourite band but still a good decision.

The Libertines:

I would say making The Libertines the Sunday night headliners was the best decision made by the Reading and Leeds team. No doubt about it they were incredible. I feel like this summer festival season has really been the return of The Libertines, and them dominating the festival circuit. It’s a good to have them back, and there isn’t much more to say than that. I seriously would urge you to go and watch their amazing performance, because seriously it was probably the only good headliner decision they made this year (in my opinion).

So there are the Reading and Leeds posts for 2015. I hope you enjoyed.
