Weight update: This week hasn’t gone too well for me weight wise or life wise to be honest, so as a result I’ve gained a pound. Not too bad or hard to recover from, but it’s what has inspired this post.

When losing weight, or really trying to achieve any goal, there will always be times that you will lose motivation. You will consider giving up and remaining in the same place you are now because it seems so much more easier than growing- but don’t. I know it’s hard, but here are some tips to maintaining your motivation:

  • Think about how far you’ve come- It’s so easy to stay focused on how far you have left to go in achieving your goal, but it’s so much more beneficial to think about how far you’ve come. There is no doubt that you have grown since the beginning of your journey, so think about where you were then and now, and use the positivity of your growth to motivate yourself to carry on.

  • Remember your goals- Sometimes it’s hard to remember why you began the task you’ve set yourself that seems so impossible right now. To combat this try writing down your goals and all the things that will benefit you from achieving it. This is a sure way to keep yourself on track for success.

  • Keep a diary- When you begin with a task that has an end result it’s good to write down, daily or weekly, how it’s been going so you can reflect on it after a month. Sometimes it can be really helpful to write down everything your thinking/feeling in a place that is confidential and just for you. When you look back at it in a month or even a year you will see how much you’ve improved, even if it doesn’t seem like it, and this will automatically give you the positivity you need.

  • Do something that makes you happy- You need to remember to treat yourself. It’s easy to get caught up in achieving something that takes time, and you end up distracted from what really matters- keeping yourself happy and healthy. Every so often you have to think about you and go out and do something that makes you feel carefree- go out with friends, go on a night out, even just spending the day/night on the sofa watching mindless TV or films. Enjoy yourself and remember that life isn’t all about work and goals, it’s about enjoying what you have now and striving for improvement.

I hope that this post has helped you remember why you began the journeys you did, and I’ve helped keep you motivated. Just remember you can totally do this.
