So here we are day two of Glasto, and, with no further introduction, here is my top 3 acts of Saturday…
The Last Shadow Puppets: This performance gave me major PGD! It was only last month that I saw the dream team in Leicester and majorly swooned over my two favourite men. They definitely only made things worse with their Glasto set. When I saw them live they were unreal, sounding exactly like they do on their album, just with the added energy of being live- that’s exactly what their Glastonbury set was like. Separately they are unreal and together they are just the same. They are both charismatic frontmen who know their way around a guitar and microphone, making them the perfect duo. I will say though at times it seemed more like Alex was the main event, with Miles being a convenient added extra. Alex Turner is just one of those rock stars who has become cocky but you kinda love anyway because he has that confidence. But even though, like I said, it was the Alex Turner show at times, his relationship with Miles Kane is one of my favourites because, not only do they have a massive respect for each other as musicians, they also adore one another, and it shows on stage. Bad Habits was definitely a highlight for me as it was when Miles really burst out and went fucking mental #BreakOut #YesMiles. Playing hits from their first album, as well as their new one, they are definitely worth a watch if you are looking for something chill to listen to of an afternoon.
Wolf Alice: The thing I love about writing festival posts is that it gives me the chance to talk about musical acts that I don’t usually discuss on my blog. Wolf Alice is a typical example of this. The four-piece indie-rock Londoners are most definitely worth a listen to whether it’s their Glastonbury set, or just checking them out on Spotify, they are truly incredible. Their indie-rock sound is exactly what I love to listen to on the daily- I have mentioned several times on my blog that guitars, drums, and an amazing vocal is what I love to hear the most, and Wolf Alice achieve this perfectly. Not only does their music astound me, but, unlike most bands, the lead singer is actually a woman, Ellie Rowsell. She is a true inspiration for all women- a strong independent female, who can stand with three men behind her and still be the most powerful of them all. Her voice is amazing both live and on CD, and she always manages to have that effortlessly beautiful look about her. If you want a strong woman in the UK music scene to look up to its definitely her. Wolf Alice are probably one of my highlights of the whole festival, and I strongly recommend you give them a listen, especially if you are a fan of the indie-rock scene.
Fatboy Slim: A little bit of a shift from Wolf Alice and TLSP, but you can’t disregard a legend. Anyone who went to Glastonbury and decided to watch Adele headline the ‘Pyramid stage’ rather than see Fatboy Slim is quite frankly a fool (sorry not sorry Adele) – when you have the opportunity to listen to a true DJ legend why would you chose to sway to ‘rolling in the deep’ rather than go completely mental to ‘praise you’??? #Let’sBeSerious! If his Glastonbury set is anything to go by 53 year old Norman Cook, loved and known as Fatboy Slim, should definitely not be stopping anytime soon, as this DJ still has some beats left to drop. At 53 he can still walk onto a stage, one man, and play tune after tune which make the crowd go insane. If watching the crowd last night was anything to go by Fatboy Slim is still very much a living legend in the eyes of more than just me. People were going completely insane (hopefully from music not drugs but when at Glasto…) and generally feeling any beat that was dropped. All I can say is that I’m extremely jealous of anyone who had the chance to see him perform, and can only hope I will have the opportunity to see him live. If you’re looking for a party playlist you can pretty much just put this Glastonbury set on and you’re done. Thanks Norman.
Additional Highlights: Of course there are more than just 3 acts for you to listen to at Glastonbury, so here are some of my highlights: The 1975, Tom Odell, Mark Ronson, Churches, and Laspley.
One thing I would like to mention is The 1975’s set. Pretty much everyone knows now that I’m completely obsessed with The 1975, loving their music, and their look, and everything they stand for. When performing their set yesterday Matt Healey took the opportunity, when standing in front of thousands of people, to discuss the EU situation we are now in. He used the platform he had of being part of pop culture, and being onstage at one of the biggest festivals in the world, to address a whole nation regarding its future, and the injustice that has been served to the younger generation. If that’s not reason enough to go and watch their set then I don’t know what is.
I hope you enjoyed day 2 of my Glastonbury weekend posts, and I look forward to filling you in on the final day of the festival tomorrow…
