So on Sunday I get to (finally) get on a plane and soak up some much needed sun (lol if it rains) on holiday. I haven’t been on an actual holiday abroad in about 7 years, so it’s safe to say I’m not very well trained in the way of packing efficiently for planes. If you’re having the same issue as me then here are some packing essentials for any holiday…
Plan your outfits in advance: It’s essential that when you’re going abroad you plan your outfits well in advance because with a baggage allowance you don’t have the weight to waste on clothes you’re not going to wear. To help with this figure out how many days you’re going for, what the weather is likely to be, and then decide on the types of outfits you might wear and feel comfortable in. If you’re going to Ibiza there’s no point in taking a snow suit and heavy scarf, so be sensible, and try and chose fabrics that are light weight, such as kimonos and cotton T-shirts, rather than heavy denim.
Day and Night: Another issue with the baggage limit is that it could limit your options of packing day AND night wear- instead chose clothing to make outfits that are day TO night wear. If you can take a casual pair of shorts or skirt with a light T-shirt and a pair of sandals to wear during the day, you could take a light sheer shirt and simple pair of black heels to turn it into a night outfit. This will save you space in your case, and limit the amount of time you spend getting ready at night, meaning more time to go out and get to know the night life of a completely new city.
Comfort is the key: Remember, although you obviously want to look fierce when you’re abroad, you still want to be as comfortable as possible. Holiday’s always mean a lot of walking around, whether it’s walking to the beach from the hotel, walking around a city, or traipsing from club to club on a crawl, you don’t want to be limping anywhere or missing out form heat exhaustion. To avoid this make sure to wear flats or heels that aren’t too high and that you’ve properly broken in, and only wear light clothing if you’re in a hot country- think cotton and chiffon.
Roll don’t fold: One of my biggest holiday tips is when packing always roll don’t fold. If you fold your clothes and layer them one on top of the other then you will find your space running out fast as the bulkier clothes tend to give extra height to any clothing layered on top. If you roll your clothing then you use much less space as you can simply place your clothes side by side rather than layering them. This also reduces your clothing becoming creased and crushed by layers upon layers of clothing being piled on top of each other. So ROLL don’t FOLD.
Toiletries: When it comes to packing you have to consider your toiletries as well. The key is to take a suitcase. I know it sounds ridiculous but there’s so many bloody rules regarding liquids and the amounts that you’re allowed that there’s no point. Just check a suitcase in and stick all your toiletries in it and you don’t have to worry for the rest of your trip. And to make it that much better for yourself share a suitcase with a close friend or relative and go halfers on your toiletries to save you space and money.
So there are just 5 little tips for holiday packing essentials. Happy Holidaying!!!
