You’ve got to march for you’re right to equality

After writing my last post about the gender pay gap I began to research into campaigns and protests going on around London that fought for equality. That was when I stumbled upon ‘The Women’s March on London’, a fantastic campaign that will see thousands of men and women march the streets of London on January 21st 2017.

But what exactly is the women’s march you may ask? Well, it’s a grassroots movement that makes alliances with groups that fight for social change. And it won’t only be happening in London. Across the world there will be Women’s marches taking place on the very day that Donald Trump, a man who epitomises the very being of inequality and hate, embarks on his first day of presidency. Thousands of people will be lining the streets across the world, standing together, and saying an almighty ‘FUCK YOU’ to Donald Trump and everything that he represents.

It’s immensely important, especially with the mass amount of hate and loathing in the world right now, that positivity is spread in whatever way it can be. I asked one of the promoters of the march Beth Garner why she thought this campaign was so important, to which she replied, “This march is vital in creating a positive and motivating space for change to take place. People are joining together and coming out to make their voices heard. We are sending a bold message to not only those who oppress, but also to the oppressed: that they are not alone, and that their fight is our fight”. It is this unity and acceptance of one another that is the only way the fight to equality will be won.

Although named ‘The Women’s Walk’ it is imperative that both men and women join in the fight. As Beth explained, “Women's rights are human rights and it is imperative that all sexes are on board to contribute to the conversation”. Every human across the world should be motivated by inequality, in whatever form it comes in, to fight for change, and whether it is for women’s rights or gay rights, we should all stand together as humans.

So if you want to join the campaign, or if you would just like to research into it, check out ‘The Women’s March on London’ Facebook page.

Let’s unite and march for our right to equality.
