What a Dam good holiday

So I know that last week I didn’t write a post (sorry about that) but I do have a good reason. I decided to go to Amsterdam for a week. Just me, some friends, and a new city for us to explore. So what did 5 university students get up to in Dam? Well let me tell you…

We travelled on Monday. Up at 9am for a flight at 3:30, turned 5:30, which resulted in

many pints in the airport pub. How I made it on that flight I will never know. But by the time we had actually got to Amsterdam, stumbled our way to the hotel, checked in, and actually realised that we were no longer in the UK, it was late and we just wanted to see what Amsterdam was like at night. So we did what any university students would do in a country notorious for the legalisation of marijuana. We went to a coffee house and flew back to the hotel.

After quite the first night experience we didn’t get up until 2pm the next day- typical uni students I know. But

when we did end up getting up we visited the only rational place for us to go- the red light district. Five uni students, one strip, multiple windows illuminated by red lights, and more peep show opportunities than one could count. It was certainly an adventure. I’m not sure I’ll ever fully be able to forget going into the dingiest room for 2 euros to watch a woman lie on a bed and show me her vagina. The only thing we could do was go to the pub and drink to forget.

Wednesday was when we could finally make our parents proud by saying we had done some tourist activities. We woke up early (sigh) and went straight to the I Amsterdam letters so we could climb all over them. Let’s just say I’ve never been quite that far into a D. We walked around Amsterdam, soaking up the culture, seeing the canals, and generally just exploring this completely new city. Pure proud parent moment.

And then we went back to being university students. On our last full day in Amsterdam we

didn’t wake up until 2pm, and all we really did was get a Chinese and drink. Arguably my favourite day.

And then we had to leave on Friday. Back to London, back to uni, and back to reality.

So there’s what I got up to on my little jaunt to Amsterdam. If you want to tell me what you get up to when you’re on holiday leave me a comment below.
