Uni students just wanna have fun

We’ve all been there haven’t we? You’ve been at university for nearly 6 months now and you’re still acting like a fresher. Still going out most nights. Still getting obnoxiously drunk. Recently I’ve been receiving some complaints regarding my university lifestyle of having fun, so I conducted a small research study to see how my uni experience compared to others.

So here are my stats:

How many times a week do you drink alcohol?

On average I would say twice, although if I have nothing to do in regards to university or work then sometimes up to five times a week. Is that bad?

How much alcohol do you consume in a week?

Probably up to a bottle of spirits, normally vodka, but only if its Russian Standard- girls got standards.

What is your reason for drinking?

Do you really need one? I usually drink to socialise. After a hard week of boring lectures and seminars, let’s be honest, no one understood, I like to be able to relax with my friends, drink some alcohol, and forget about all of my worries for a night or two.

Does drinking alcohol effect your studies?

Obviously not. I know that if drinking begins to affect my studies then there could be a problem developing, but until now I have never missed a lesson due to alcohol effects or to drink more alcohol.

Has your alcohol intake increased at university?

Of course it has. There as so many more clubs to explore in London than back home so why wouldn’t I want to go out and enjoy myself?

So those are my statistics, but how do they compare to others like me? Well 46% of people

said that they drink 1-3 times in a week, with 33% of people admitting to drinking a bottle of spirits a week. I suppose the most important question I want to compare is if my fellow students let their studies be interrupted by the effects of alcohol. Well rest easy mum and dad because, although 26% of people admitted that they did on occasions, a 73% majority were with me and completely against allowing alcohol to interrupt what they fundamentally came to uni to do. I guess we are kind of responsible adults huh.

So if we aren’t letting alcohol effect out studies and we are only going out 1-3 times a week what’s everyone so worried about? I suppose you could argue that drinking a litre bottle of vodka a week isn’t great for you but its uni. When else in your life will you be able to drink this much alcohol and still feel fine the next day? Never is the answer. Of course that doesn’t mean go out and see how much you can drink. The key is to drink and have fun but don’t be stupid and kill yourself. We’re all capable of that right?

I suppose my final note on this topic is have fun. As long as you’re still going to uni, and you aren’t landing yourself in hospital with broken bones and liver damage, just ignore what everyone else says and do you.

Long live the sesh.
